In 2003 I recognised an opportunity and established the Boo Radley brand a “speed to market” in ladies fashion label in partnership with a Chinese manufacturer. Over the next five years the company grew to employ seventy five staff in Australia and China as well as contracting agents in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and America to sell wholesale Boo Radley fashions. During this same time period the company opened concept stores in most Australian States. In 2008 the company was firmly established as a reliable brand of women's fashion clothing and has a regular TVSN (television shopping channel) following and a turnover of approximately $8M. In 2104 my personal circumstances changed with the death of my wife and since that time I have wound down the company and handed control over to my Chinese business partner. Achievements: - Established and grew a women's wholesale and retail clothing business that achieved a turnover of $8M. Set up the Boo Radley China Manufacturing Factory in Guangzhou employing 50 staff and this enable direct distribution from China into stores across to five countries - Implemented a mainframe computer system to coordinate the garment manufacturing in China and to control inventory. It is used by the sales team across 6 countries. - Opened retail and online stores in most Australian states and companies in Canada and America. - - Implemented a customer reward program for wholesale boutiques that support the brand this included a visual merchandising package that was utilised by most boutiques. The CEO of Blue Illusion identified that their production lead times and China manufacturing costs were not world's best practice and contracted me to review and provide recommendations to improve process, timelines and reduce supply costs Achievements: - Reviewed the Planning, Design, Production and Logistic departments current processes and found that the processes over time had become overly complicated and communication between the departments was fragmented and not effective. Costed the current processes and prepared a business case that recommended process changes and cost savings. - Presented the recommendations to the CEO and a program of change was commenced. I developed a report card in consultation with the Departments that has improved communication and created clarity of each department's role in the supply chain and management of suppliers. This was used in negotiations with suppliers to maintain quality standards and reduce costs. - Travelled to China with the Department managers and assessed the manufacturing capabilities this improved the order placement and garment manufacturing and has achieved a 30% reduction in the delivery timeline. - Identified a major cost saving initiative to implement 3PL warehousing and distribution. This will streamline the existing logistics procedures and enable direct to store movements reducing warehouse storage and processing of inventory costs thereby enabling Blue Illusion to successfully utilise a faster more efficient cheaper supply chain process without lowering their quality standard Show less
