System X Programme Manager
-
Jun 1981 - Apr 1993
Managing the Engineering Programme for System X Development including co-ordination of workgroups in Coventry, Poole, Liverpool, Beeston & Taplow and engineering activities between GEC, Plessey and BT under the direction of the late and highly respected Technical Director, Martin Ward. In earlier days as an engineer, I formed part of the team responsible for integrating and testing the world's first digital telephone exchanges in Woodbridge, Sussex and Hale in Liverpool in 1982 before going on to head up the Multi-Cluster Processor Development team, resulting in successful upgrade to over 500 live BT telephone exchanges between 1985 and 1992 and being awarded Guinness Book of Records entry for the world's fastest telephone exchange. Extensive use of video conferencing allowed me to co-ordinate my projects nationwide & a passion for this technology and the Thames Valley area prompted me to move myself and family to GPT Video Systems, Maidenhead, in 1993.
