The timing of this business initiative was unfortunate as LVCR ended shortly after the business began trading, resulting in the loss of a considerable cost saving and price advantage in a very price-sensitive market.   BloomingDirect.com is an online garden centre, originally founded in Jersey as a specialist grower and seller of plug and young plants (up to 1 litre pots) cut flower bouquets and house plants, to the UK market. In 2008 we began expanding the product range to include other gardening related goods. BloomingDirect.com experienced impressive growth during the 4 year period from 2007 to 2011, annually doubling its turnover. In 2012 LVCR ended in the channel islands putting an end to a VAT advantage which had produced many boom years for e-commerce in the islands.   My first role after leaving university was in a start-up Data Warehouse consultancy business. I was employed by the two co-founders to develop a product called CopyManager (later Proteus), one of the first ETL products on the market. The initial product was developed rapidly over a two year period during which time my role evolved from programmer, to development team leader and then due to my natural entrepreneurial flair, on-wards to business development consultant taking the product to clients, selling licences and implementing it into their data warehouse solutions. In 1998 I took on the development of a new product called OLAP manager, an ETL tool dedicated to the creation and maintenance of OLAP type Data Warehouse schemas to support management reporting. Once this product was development my role was to sell it into client's Data Warehouse projects and to provide consultancy on using the tool. Show less
