Using SolidWorks, I worked on a range of Fume and Dust Extractors. This included the design and drafting of sheet metal parts and assemblies, prototype and final release using PDM, preparing estimated cost sheets and setting up parts and assemblies in NetSuite. My main role included the mechanical design and sustaining of installation equipment and instrumentation associated with temperature and pressure monitoring of oil wells and other industrial applications. I also provided technical support to the field, production and suppliers including resolution of design queries, investigation into failures, supplier concessions and preparation of internal quotations. Typical parts, assemblies and equipment include: • Down hole Turn Around Subs, Mandrels and Fibre Optic Splice Chambers • Fibre Optic Wellhead Outlets (WHO): I contributed to the design and development of a range of Fibre Optic Wellhead Outlets ranging from basic fibre feed through connectors to those including in-line safety valves suitable for pressures up to 15000psi and a temperature range from -40°C to 204°C. • Fibre Optic Pressures Seals. I designed and qualified a range of compression type Fibre Optic Pressure Seals suitable for working pressures up to 15000psi and a temperature range from -40°C to 204°C. • Fibre Optic Pressure Gauges. Working as part of a development team I contributed to the design and development of a range of downhole high temperature high pressure Fibre Optic Pressure Gauges including gauge parts and assemblies, assembly equipment, welding jigs, weld sample parts and a high pressure high temperature calibration chamber. • Fibre Payoff and Pumping System. Working as part of a small team I contributed to the design and development of an intrinsically safe Fibre Payoff and Pumping System for field use. For internal pumping activities I contributed to the design and development of a Quadruple Fibre Payoff and Pumping System. • Mechanical design of Optical/Electrical Instrumentation. Working with optical and electrical engineers I contributed to the mechanical design and sustaining of Distributed Temperature Sensors and Downhole Pressure Acquisition Units. Show less

      • Jan 1978 - Dec 1989

Following completion of my apprenticeship with Wiggins Teape Stationary Limited I joined Morganite Special Carbons Limited as a trainee Application Engineer going on to provide design, and technical support to sales and customers including the preparation of design recommendations, quotations and production drawings for a range of filled PFTE tribological parts for the valve, compressor, pump and rail industries. This was followed by a move into production where, as Production Supervisor I was responsible for a team of eighteen machinist, press operators and material process operatives. As Production Supervisor I introduced improvements to production planning enabling control of machine, press and material processing loading. Show less
