Commencing as a very inexerienced young engineer, David progressed into a very competent repair engineer dealing with thin sheet structures and ageing aircraft issues as well as more general fleet support forensic investigation and rectifying modification work. He displayed a pro-active and imaginative approach to his work and a pleasant and interactive approach to his dealings with other staff (including those in the hangar) and external customer and contractor personnel. He comes highly recommended. Give him the hard jobs, he is up to them.

During my time working at QinetiQ, David solved problems and challenges in many different engineering disciplines. He worked thoroughly, was careful in his analysis of each task, resulting in informed and intelligent decisions, and consequently, high client satisfaction. In addition, David's personal style reflected an easy person to work with and I have no hesitation in recommending him.

I spent three years as a design engineer supporting deep level maintenance of the RAAF DHC4 Caribou Fleet. This job involved creating, documenting and certifying hundreds of repair designs. A majority of the repair work was focused on thin alluminium sheet designs using hand formed sheet shapes and installed using standard aviation fasteners. I was also involved in aircraft rigging and alignment tasks; oxygen system designs; ground service equipment designs and some minor composite designs. I finished having been promoted to a Design Engineer Level 1 (DE1) level engineer that is a check/review level within the ADF system.

As a junior engineer my role was supporting the production of the GA8 Airvan. The aircraft is an 8 seat FAR23 transport/utility aircraft that isn’t pressurized. I was involved in some compliance engineering, and other small engineering investigations that required some flight tests etc. This required the development of technical reports and drawings. I spent a majority of my time carrying out design and drafting of structural components and assemblies including flight controls and airframe components using AutoCAD 2000. Other significant tasks I was involved included completing the GA8 Illustrated parts catalogue and provided assistance in multiple weighs of production aircraft.
