AT&T Broadband is the company that used to be TCI and is now Comcast.I worked at the National Network Operations Center, supporting what was then known as the @Home Network, and is now known simply as cable internet.I had fun, and worked with some good people, but the job was a lot less technical, and involved a lot more oversight of field repair techs than what I had been led to believe. In addition, I was appalled at the bureaucratic turf battles that I saw around me almost every day, and amazed at the several layers of middle management just within my own department. I was also infuriated that our managers clung to procedure manuals handed down from "corporate" like they were the received word of God - while ignoring the fact that the procedures listed in them bore no resemblance to the way we actually performed our jobs. So, when my 6-month contract was up, I was brutally honest about my feelings for the organization in my exit interview, and left with a sigh of relief.

I worked as part of a 6-person staff to support about 250 end users. While I was there, we grew the IT infrastructure from 3 servers to nearly 20, and migrated an antiquated R:Base database to Oracle. I was personally responsible for creating and supporting the server and software infrastructure for an intranet website which management used to keep close tabs on company finances, including reports which updated nightly. I also researched, designed, implemented and supported a migration from physical fax machines throughout the company to an integrated faxing solution (using RightFax) where each user could send and receive faxes from their desktops, as well as massive mass faxing capabilities.

MTS was a great little computer networking & consulting company. They took me on as a raw recruit, and helped me learn much of what I know about computers, networking and customer service. I owe a great deal of what I know, and my attitude about doing this work, from my mentor, Mark Bouvier. MTS was a great little computer networking & consulting company.
