This was my move to Virginia job. Sent resumes to what was then Progress Printing Company and landed an appointment to see TD Thornton - president and Danny VP. I remember leaving with the feeling like I had family in Lynchburg. (NY to VA) While at Progress, designed and mostly produced print projects (remember paste ups?) for central Virginia’s largest commercial printing company. Met with clients and/or sales person to determine their needs and to review jobs as they progressed from layout through completion. Created layouts, specified type and produced mechanical art for a variety of print projects from one-color to four-color.Worked at night to enable sales of freelance art to occur during daytime hours. A great learning experience.Later when "making" catalogs for Blair products in the David Jones/Graphics and later Advertising Design days, I'd review press runs along side the web at heir new facilty.

Knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of the then tools of the trade including typesetting equipment, stat camera and horizontal production camera. Utilized darkroom equipment to produce photostats/prints as needed.
