David started his career with C&G stage 1 & 2 Horticulture and as a ‘pot boy’ at Burn Hall, Yorkshire Waters Head training offices at York. He then went to Askham Bryan College in the late 1970’s, on an O.N.D Amenity Horticulture plus Arboricultural option, where his class mates included Mark Gregory ( Chelsea award winner & designer/ Landmark)and he met Tim Grace (Grace Landscapes). After completing college, David worked for Comtec (uk)Ltd :based in Kent, on large landscaping project such as IBM London, Charring Cross Station refurbishment and the Thamesmead bypass. Here he met and worked under John Melmoe ( Willoughby Landscapes, BALI award winners for the Olympic gardens) with whom he operated and finally managed hydroseeding contracts in Tanzania, Gabon & Kenya. After leaving Comtec, David set up Ryland Horticulture Ltd in 1983 and has since owned & managed the company who are Arboricultural Association Approved Contractors & BALI Approved Contractors. David now has over 30 years experience running a successful contracting company as well as having sat on various committees and undertaken visiting lectures on arboriculture and landscaping. David has undertaken over fifty short courses as part of his CPD, ranging from excel, hedge laying, chainsaw & arboriculture to tree inspections. As part of his ongoing commitment to learning, David became a Lantra Instructor & NPTC Assessor during 2006 and continues putting something back into the system by training young people. As a fellow of the Arboricultural Association and having completed his top up degree to BSc (Hons),David’s future goals are to become a chartered arboriculturist via the Institute of Chartered Foresters and to become a registered consultant of the Arboricultural Association. David has also the MSc in mind in a few years time.His company Ryland Horticulture Ltd continued to be a solid enterprise in these difficult times.
