I managed David for about 5 years at Qualanex. He started out doing day to day IT Support, but soon it was obvious that he took that job even though he was capable of doing much more. I would come to learn that this is who David is: an extremely talented and highly technical person, who at the same time is very kind, humble, and friendly. As time went on, David would keep asking about the next thing and offering to help. I always appreciated that if I showed him something one time, he had it 100%. The database for our system is very complex, and the way the system was developed, it wasn't easy or intuitive to learn or maintain. Some things seemed like the right way to do, but there were pitfalls involved. David handled this complexity with ease. As soon as possible, I brought on someone else to do IT Support, and moved David full-time into SQL Server Database Development. His skills are top notch, even for highly complicated and technically challenging reports, queries, and development tasks. I kept thinking that I've transferred as much to him as I could have hoped to, but he kept learning more in his quiet way. The tasks that David got involved in grew from pure SQL Server, and expanded into JSON Azure Logic Apps, C# APIs, Windows batch jobs, etc. His ability to quickly learn new things and be instantly self-sustaining is unparalleled, as is his speed to accomplish tasks. All of David's co-workers gravitated towards him because of his calm demeanor and his technical ability. If they had a system issue or request, they knew he could accomplish it quickly. People also wanted to talk to him about life because he was so approachable. I never had to question whether David was giving full effort to the job, regardless of whether we were working together or he was on his own. When something was needed off hours, he would often take care of it before I had a chance to look at it, even though this wasn't part of his official role. I feel fortunate to have met David, and to have benefited from this superior skills at work. I also appreciate that he has become my friend. I could not recommend him more highly for any position. Any company who employs David would be lucky to have him.
