I joined mBlox, seeing the technical challenges it presented, and knowing I could make a positive contribution. On joining, I quickly realised that this is an innovative, flexible company, where everyone's opinion is considered on its own merit. Its software footprint has followed it from small beginnings to its current state, through 10 years of business growth, leaving its database solution ripe for changes, both big and small. I am working on several interconnected and concurrent projects, handled within the same Agile Scum team. These projects are driven by the decision to implement a new billing system: • A central enterprise repository for reference data shared between several applications • Data encapsulation layer over the above, allowing controlled interactive data access and manipulation • Publish-and-Subscribe for broadcasting data changes through Oracle Advanced Queuing • A new data warehouse, to become a central repository for message data • Data migration, control, and interfaces between these and into the new billing system • Reporting, using both SAP Business Objects and Oracle Application Express. I joined an IBM project for DEFRA to replace an existing legacy application which captures high volumes of data used to monitor animal movements within the UK. The new environment is Oracle 10g running under AIX. I developed new PL/SQL routines to securely and efficiently encapsulate complex SQL data structures for the WebSphere Java layer. I also created modules to extract XML data for frequent updating of other applications. My personal quality ethos ensured that all of my work met stringent performance quality and response time constraints. To work within strict testing standards, I developed sophisticated automated regression and performance testing scripts to ensure that my modules could be relied on to act correctly and quickly after any release into any environment. The project was managed under a ClearCase/ClearQuest infrastructure. Show less

SITA - working for the Italian government – hired me on a project to enhance border security, working as a PL/SQL specialist amongst a team largely of Java technologists. I developed data models and routines to encapsulate data for presentation to the Java layer through .net technology. I also designed and developed a suite of packages to provide a highly flexible, fast, detailed ad-hoc search engine. All this met their stringent quality and response constraints and deadlines as well as providing sophisticated automated regression-testing scripts to ensure that my modules could be thoroughly tested after all releases into any environment Show less

I worked for EDF on a project to develop a PL/SQL file reception (through SQL*Loader) and data processing suite to handle a high volume interface from a new third-party supplier. My solution successfully handled a higher volume than originally planned, including a large initial load.
