As the Chair for the Finance Committee of Providence Center, I work extensively with David. I'm constantly impressed by his passion for the Center and its mission. I have also been impressed with his financial literacy and his willingness to work with the Board in this regard. Whether working on the Center's investment strategy, the annual audits and 990 or the monthly reporting, David's been a strong partner and leader.

Working with David was one of the highlights of my time at Philabundance. Always strategic and constantly thinking of new ways to engage our stakeholders, David demonstrated a passion for our mission as well as an practical approach in translating that passion into action. During our time together as a team, volunteer efforts grew in numbers, but more importantly in effectiveness. He was able to engage multiple audiences to tackle large issues and provide true, systems-based solutions. With his skill, experience and leadership qualities, I knew that David was always poised for greater responsibility. As the Executive Director at Providence Center, I have watched him take his compassionate approach combined with strong strategic vision to grow this organization to become a significant community asset. He is a valued colleague and one of the first people I call to gain perspective on any situation.

At Lutheran Settlement House (LSH), we help people move from crisis to hope. LSH is a multifaceted service organization offering a variety of programs to empower individuals and strengthen communities across the city of Philadelphia. Our programs include bi-lingual domestic violence crisis and counselling services, a shelter for families experiencing homelessness, a senior center with support groups for caregivers, and resources to help adults continue their educations and find employment.Established in 1902, Lutheran Settlement House is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to serving children, adults, and families living in Philadelphia. Over the past century, the programs and services offered by LSH have changed in response to the evolving needs of the community. However, the core mission of Lutheran Settlement House — “to empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency through an integrated program of social, educational, and advocacy services” — has remained constant.

Providence Center serves the economically poorest community in Philadelphia and educates students to have the power and spirit to change their lives and community. I was responsible for the fundraising, financial management, marketing, facility management, and community relations for the organization.I came to Providence Center during a time of financial difficulty, and we were able to achieve a consistently balanced budget along with a 47% increase in our fundraising revenue. I also led a successful capital campaign that led to the purchase, renovations, and paying off the mortgage for our new community center.Providence Center also experienced growth in our services to our community, with an 130% growth in the number of youth involved in our programming. In the summer of 2017, Providence Center moved into a newly renovated, 6,500 square foot community center, a space more than five times larger than our previous building.

I connected over 16,000 volunteers each year to meaningful opportunities to fight hunger in the Delaware Valley. By leading a community engagement initiative and connecting with corporations, faith groups, and universities, I helped increase awareness of the causes of hunger and the organization's mission to increase access to plentiful and healthy food. As a member of the development team, I connected our work with volunteer groups with our fundraising efforts. • Director of the Wolfington Center
      • Aug 2006 - Sep 2010

The Wolfington Center is responsible for community partnerships and social justice education. As the Director, I oversaw service learning, community service, and campus ministry programming. I also worked with faculty and administration to design a series of general education courses, entitled "Justice Matters", that involve all students at the college in a progressively deeper engagement with service learning and advocacy from their Freshmen to Senior years.

    • Coordinator of Service Learning
      • Apr 2002 - Jul 2006

I oversaw service learning programming at the college, connecting faculty and students to service, advocacy, and community-based research projects that benefited community partners. I also launched Cabrini's partnership with the community of Norristown, building connections with the school district, city government, non-profits, and law enforcement.

    • Coordinator of Border Education
      • Jun 2000 - Aug 2001

While living in a squatters community lacking resources such as paved roads, running water, and sewage outside of Ciudad Juarez in Mexico, I ran education programs for college students and church groups who came to the border to learn about immigration and trade policy. In this position I built and maintained relationships with people on all sides of the issues, such as border patrol agents and factory managers, and union organizers and immigration attorneys.
