      Moving from Technical Support to Merchant Services, I could use the skills I learned in tech to enhance my industry knowledge.Merchant Services was also a fast-paced environment with incoming support calls; instead of deploying terminals, I worked on merchant email inquiries, helping me develop strong email etiquette.Merchant Services used the CRM software Trello much more often than the Tech Support department.Merchant Services used Trello to organize a knowledge base with cards that explained important terms or guides for tasks; this inspired me to create my own Trello board to organize my tasks.I was also inspired to create my own guides. Using my Trello board, I would create projects for myself, like building email templates for the most common Merchant inquiries, creating checklists for internal tasks like chargeback response submissions, and creating CRM note templates for maximum efficiency. The most common task in Merchant services was reconciling fees and deposits at the request of Merchants via email or phone call. Reconciling included finding out where a specific charge came from; this involved looking if the Merchant received a Chargeback, a negative batch amount, their monthly statement bill, etc. Reconciling with Merchants helped me build payment gateway navigation and analytical skills.In our internal CRM software, FileMaker, I would make summarized but detailed notes on every interaction I had with a Merchant account. Summarizing extensive conversations and actions with Merchants helped me comprehend inquiries better and built excellent communication skills, which resulted in superior customer service skills.Working in Merchant Services included navigating different gateways. I became proficient in multiple gateways, which helped me visualize what Merchants were having trouble with, similar to POS terminal visualization from my Tech Support experience. Show less
