During my service there, I developed policy, wrote and negotiated Congressional approval of Federal healthcare laws, including: - The Affordable Care Act, the U.S. national health reform law (known as “Obamacare”), to bring quality, affordable health care to 30 million Americans. - PEPFAR, the US global initiative on AIDS, TB, and malaria. - The Public Health Threats and Emergencies Act, the Bioterrorism Act and related laws, which strengthened America’s preparedness for biological attacks and naturally occurring pandemics after the September 11th attacks. - The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, which protects against discriminatory action on the basis of genetic information in insurance and employment. - The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, which helped set US policy for human embryonic stem cell research. - The FDA Amendments Act, to provide funds for FDA drug and device review and to establish a new comprehensive drug safety oversight system.
