Working in the Department of Environment and Mineral Resources at the Greenland Institute for Natural Resources, I provide advice to the government and conduct research related to marine impacts from mining and hydrocarbons exploration. Additional research projects include impacts of sea level changes on subtidal benthic ecosystems, monitoring long term biological indicators of climate change and ecotoxicology. As well as contributing to the development The Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Program (CBMP) Coastal monitoring plan. Show less

      • May 2014 - Mar 2018

Organisations operating in the Falkland Islands have collected large amounts of information over the last twenty years and this includes oceanographic, metocean, seismic, benthic fauna, benthic environmental, multi-beam and RoV footage etc. Much of these data are held at different locations and the fate/location of some remains unknown. This is a valuable resource for environmental decision making and scientific investigations of the maritime environment of the region. I was responsible for managing a project collating and reviewing the data that has been gathered from the various benthic, oceanographic and fisheries surveys as part of the developing offshore hydrocarbon industry in the Falkland Islands. In collaboration with key stakeholders I also developed strategies to be used for future surveys. Further to this, I developed a proposal for the first integrated marine monitoring strategy for the Islands including the structural and organisational components along with an implementation strategy. In addition to this, I was responsible for the maintenance of the Institutes website and social media outreach and communications. Show less

      • Apr 2009 - May 2012

Manager of scientific teams and coordination of a reactive marine monitoring programme to assess the impacts of dredging and construction of marine infrastructure associated with the liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant on Barrow Island, Western Australia. This involved: • planning and daily management of continuous offshore field monitoring • technical advice on monitoring and regulatory requirements internally to the monitoring team and externally to client • scientific advice and planning in response to severe disruptive environmental conditions (e.g. cyclones) and logistic constraints (e.g. boat breakdowns) in order to meet minimum monitoring requirements • technical advice and planning in response to excesses or changes in environmental monitoring parameters (e.g. water quality thresholds, coral mortality) • coordination of scientific team activities and daily communication with the Field Operations Manager and the Project Manager. • design and implementation of data management procedures, including Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures • analyses of coral health and water quality data • coordinating and contributing to routine fortnightly compliance reporting and other scientific deliverables • frequent client liaison. • Jul 2005 - Sep 2008

As a post-doctoral researcher Centre for Research on Ecological Impacts of Coastal Cities I was responsible for the designing field experiments as well as fieldwork in intertidal marine areas in and around Sydney Harbour, Australia, including management of a small research team and the identification of intertidal fauna and flora, data entry, management and analysis, and the preparation of reports and articles for publication in scientific journals. From 2006-2008 I was employed specifically on the project "Building seawalls to maintain intertidal biodiversity." This involved interacting with local and state government departmental representatives, assisting in the preparation and negotiation of contracts, attending and contributing to planning meetings, designing experiments and field based supervision of construction teams as well as interactions with on-site engineers, sampling intertidal marine habitats with a small research team under my direct supervision, data handling, including data entry, quality control and subsequent analysis of data. I was also responsible for preparation of reports and presentation of findings scientific audiences and stakeholders. Show less
