Studied under the mentorship of Dr. Pantazopoulos and Dr. Gisabella to determine the impact of sleep deprivation on Perineuronal Net (PNN) Composition and neural plasticity in adult, wild type, male mice. The research involved the utilization of simple handing, immunocytochemistry, and the quantification of PNNs using Bioquant Nova Prime v6.0 in regions of the hippocampus, amygdala, and habenula. Future research will focus on the regulation of PNN composition by the microglial-derived protease, Cathepsin-S, and the MMP-9 and MMP-16 protease involvement in individuals who suffer with Schizophrenia and Alzheimer's Disease.
