Bio
Kemal Yusuf
I worked with David on a new piece for the University of Bristol Brass Ensemble. Throughout the process he was a pleasure to work with: always open to feedback and ready to make changes when necessary. He really brought the best out of the piece and had a great manner with the players in dealing with any problems that arose. David is a good musician and his repertoire knowledge, matched with an openness to new music, ensured the premier was a success.

During my six years at Langley Grammar, I have also twice held the role of Individual Needs Coordinator (Maternity) providing support for students with additional educational needs; taught Year 7 English for a year; and mentored a PGCE student and NQT colleague. I have also been - and continue to be - a form tutor.

Director of Youth Orchestra, Concert Band and Prep Wind Band

Apr 2015 - Present
Appointed in April 2015; currently responsible for directing the Youth Orchestra, Concert Band and Prep Wind Band and Concert Band, both in rehearsal and in concert. The Youth Orchestra and the Concert Band are the most senior orchestral and wind band groups offered by the Amersham Music Centre, and perform a wide variety of music to the highest standard; the Prep Wind Band provides young wind players with that vital first ensemble playing experience. I also deliver a mixture of student and adult instrumental lessons.

Assistant Director of Music
-
Mar 2015 - Mar 2019
Appointed ADM in March 2015; I was primarily responsible for directing the Academy Band in weekly rehearsals and in concert. The Academy Band serves a two-fold purpose - introducing young and developing musicians to ensemble playing in a fun and friendly atmosphere, as well as providing a vehicle for older musicians who are looking to get back into playing. Repertoire was chosen in accordance with these aims, in order to provide music which is easily accessible to new players, as well as stretching and challenging the most able. The ADM position also provided numerous opportunities to direct the Main Band both in rehearsal and in concert, as well as at numerous public events. I stood down from the role in March 2019 in order to focus on career/musical development in other areas.
