    • Compliance/H&S Manager
      • Apr 2018 - Apr 2021

In April 2018 the director ownership at PEL Services Ltd retired and sold the business to Aliter Capital. Initially headed up by Glasgow based Boston Networks, after more acquisitions the far larger group was rebranded as North.Working at London based North AVS Ltd. I continued fulfilling the same role, albeit a change of title to Compliance/H&S Manager to sit more comfortably within the new governance. The rebranding exercise generated a heavy workload to rebrand as North, where the new name and style needed to be reflected in all our policies, management systems and be recorded with all accreditation and governance bodies.During this time I completed and qualified for CITB Site Safety Plus - Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) along with managing arrangements for work colleagues to achieve the same at levels appropriate to role - Site Managers, Site Supervisors and Health and Safety Awareness. I also became a certified F-Gas Technician and put arrangements in place for our organisation to be registered as certified to the Fluorinated Gas Regulations 517/214.Due to the ongoing amalgamation of several businesses, coming together to form North, the governance is increasingly moving to Glasgow making my role in London and the South East surplus to requirements. I leave North on 9th April 2021 and looking forward to taking stock and planning my next move.

    • HSEQ Manager
      • Oct 2002 - Apr 2018

In 2018 I have fundamentally restructured both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Quality and Environmental Management Systems in line with their latest revisions. Not only have both met the respective standard, achieving re-certification at their first external audit, but work together in simplified fashion inline with the original ethos underlying the revisions. The company currently holds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.Our Occupational Health & Safety arrangements are audited by a number of Safety Systems In Procurement (SSIP) organisations that require annual evidence based renewal for continued certification. This reduces our contractual need to adopt ISO 45001 formally, however I am minded that one day it may be necessary to adopt this standard and therefore base our Occupational Health & Safety Arrangements to comply with ISO 45001 and be ready to dovetail with our other Quality and Environmental Management Systems when needs arise.I also manage industry certifications such as LPCB LPS 1014 and BAFE SP201 for Fire Alarm works, NICEIC for electrical installations, and SSAIB for Intruder Alarm, Access Control and CCTV.Generally promoting a positive and inclusive health and safety culture throughout our workforce, I arrange training by third parties, design and deliver in-house health, safety and welfare training, undertake and review risk assessments and method statements, undertake equipment inspections in accordance with PUWER, site inspections, safety audits and accident investigation. All arrangements and procedures are documented, recorded and audited.Bid Management - I manage the company's presence on various online PQQ and tender platforms. My technical and HSEQ knowledge being advantageous to promoting our organisation. Identifying and appraising bids to put forward to the team, I take responsibility for writing the quality elements of a bid and tasking others to ensure the tender is submitted on time.

    • Senior Commissioning Engineer / Small Works
      • Jun 1997 - Oct 2002

A fundamental change of company structure offered me continued employment as a Commissioning Engineer. During this period I primarily surveyed & quoted for Small Works – mostly system extensions and alterations for our existing customer base. I also gained experience creating marketing materials, for example: developing the company website, creating case studies, brochures and a company catalogue. During this time I primarily used the Adobe InDesign software package.

    • Senior Commissioning Engineer
      • Sep 1986 - Jun 1997

I joined Planned Equipment Ltd (or PEL as they were often known) as a Service Engineer for the South East for Public Address and Music Systems. I quickly gained the knowledge and experience required to work in the other disciplines of Fire Detection and Alarm, Intercoms, Access Control, CCTV and Intruder Alarms. During this time I looked after some of the companies biggest and most demanding sites.I was soon used throughout the UK for troubleshooting and commissioning of more demanding new installations, sometimes training the local engineer. These often involved programming complex cause and effect routines in hotel rooms for Analogue Addressable Fire Alarms and Voice Evacuation Systems.Examples include: * Virgin Cinema Multiplexes in Rochester, Cardiff, Aberdeen, South Shields, commissioning Fire Detection and Voice Evacuation Systems;* Debenhams in Brighton, Canterbury, Wimbledon, commissioning Fire Detection and Voice Evacuation Systems;* The commissioning of Voice Evacuation Systems in County Mall Crawley, Royal Victoria Place Tunbridge Wells (also Fenwick Department Store) Quadrant Shopping Centre Redhill;* Commissioning of Long Line Public Address with Ditra Systems for Dockland Light Railway;* Commissioning of Public Address Voice Alarm in New British Library Kings Cross. When Planned Equipment Ltd ran into financial difficulties I was included within a group of key staff offered a position within a phoenix company with continued employment which I accepted.

    • Television Service Technician
      • Mar 1984 - Sep 1986

Fully qualified Television Service Technician based in their Burgess Hill, West Sussex workshop, travelling to customers' homes to undertake repairs to rented Televisions and Video Cassette Recorders in the Mid Sussex area.

    • Apprentice Radio and Television Service Technician
      • Sep 1981 - Feb 1984

Upon leaving school I chose to undertake the position of Apprentice Radio & Television Service Technician. This three-year apprenticeship consisted of study to achieve the qualification of City & Guilds 224 Electronics Servicing Parts 1, 2 and 3, plus additional examinations for the Radio and Television Electronics Examination Board (RTEEB) at Highbury College of Technology in Portsmouth. I also attended additional training courses, with practical fault-finding exercises, periodically held at the company training school, Relay House in Swindon. To attend Highbury College I was required to stay away from home for a 'block-release' during term time, staying in nearby 'digs' with a shared room and a landlady. Similar provision was made for company training in Swindon. When not on block release I was based at the workshop in Burgess Hill, performing duties applicable to my level of training - mostly changing tubes, assisting with two-man deliveries , refurbishing television sets and video recorders to be returned to rental stock.
