  The Batten visiting professorship annually brings academics or professionals to the Davidson College campus. It's named in honor of the late James K. Batten, a longtime Knight-Ridder newspaper executive and a 1957 Davidson College graduate. I was the first journalist to hold the professorship who worked entirely in the emerging world of online journalism, and in community news in particular.
