David's multidisciplinary, cross-school PhD combined Pharmaceutical Microbiology with a variety of Engineering disciplines encompassing Electrical, High-frequency Electronics, RF Design, Mechanical and Manufacturing, Product Design, Polymer Processing and Materials Science. This research explored the potential of conducting polymer surfaces in conjunction with electrical currents and RF fields to both detect and prevent bacterial biofilm formation responsible for device-related infection in patients. David designed and manufactured his own unique electrical biofilm flow devices, facilitating renewed exploration into the effects of electrical sterilisation techniques on conducting polymer surfaces under bacterial flow.
