During my tenure in over-landing, I got to work in nine different African countries. I drove a Unimog 4000 km from Cape Town, South Africa to Lilongwe, Malawi. I am familiar with the cultures of the respective countries, the rigors of every border, the regulations and the politics that influence their ways of life. Aside from the countries mentioned above my work has taken me through every province in South Africa and very nearly every favoured destination. The countries I have experienced are: Lesotho Swaziland Namibia Botswana Malawi Mozambique Zimbabwe Zambia Nomad is the biggest overland company in Africa. At this company, I was the tour cook. My responsibilities here included ; Planning 20-day menus Keeping within the budget Dietary requirements Cold space Availability of shopping opportunities. Border controls Variety I excelled during my time here at Nomad and received good feedback for quality and creativity. An especially difficult group to cater to was the vegans and vegetarians. However, I was able to reinvent legume dishes to the point that they were also favoured by the usual meat-eaters. I also drove my first full tour with this Nomad. Show less

Trip leader, driver, bush cook, completed a self-drive. Done tours from Cape Town to Vic Falls( Zimbabwe ) and crossed through Botswana and Namibia( 21 days at a time) On these tours organized accommodation upgrades and made reservations for optional activities. Maintained accounts and keep budgets. This also included maintaining records of currency exchanges ( with invoicing and exchange rate slips) Also responsible for the payment of certain crew members at the end of the tour I attended to minor scratches, insect bites and other ailments that affected the guests, but fortunately, though qualified to- had no major emergencies, though there were recurring instances of lactic acid buildups, and problems of female nature. I have done game drives through Etosha in a high occupancy vehicle and helped with transits back to home-base. Done a self drive around Namibia for 19 days and lead six other vehicles through places like the Namib-Naukluft, Okonjima, the dessert, Khorixas, the petrified forest, the organ pipes, burnt mountain and White Lady. I have spent nights with guests and cooked for them at the Chobe national park and the Okavango delta. I have camped in Etosha at Halali, Namutoni and Okekeuejo. I've experienced breakdowns en route back home and while on tour and dealt with them accordingly. I was adept at resolving conflicts or unpleasantness among guests, whether it was directed at the company, the crew or among themselves. ( to prevent misunderstandings or miscommunications by their travel agents I always addressed the itinerary in pre-departure meetings and put emphasis on the unlikelihood of itinerary changes but let them know it was dependant on route conditions. This is a bush river camp on the border of Namibia. Here we ran river trips that were half-day yours(7km's),full-day tours with lunch provided for guests, and four-day tours where we overnighted on the banks of the orange river. The river camp its self had a bar, glamping, camp-sites, and a bar. My duties here were: River Guiding Cooking/Pre-cooking. Bartending Camp Maintenance Driving transfers into Namibia. Boat Repairs Construction There was major preparation needed before a river trip. This included bottling drinking water, food, ice, and safety equipment. Part of my duties also included doing transfers in and out of Namibia and resupplying to ongoing trips. Show less
