May 2013 - Feb 2015
Working in a senior role with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) provided an industry broadening on aviation governance and a direct opportunity to set aviation standards to ensure a viable and safe operation of complex aviation operations in the Civil Sector. At the National level, I worked in a small team, leading key stakeholders to collaboratively derive new standards and regulations, legislation and guidance materials, that were underpinned by rigorous risk consideration, safety in operation, in a commercially and operationally relevant context. In this role, I initiated and led the first major cross-divisional and cross-disciplinary organisational collaborations by CASA, to drive the development and implementation of aviation regulatory standards and future legislation. During this tenure, I was tasked to provide independent advice on behalf of the Commonwealth Government to the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) on the $2B capital acquisition of the MRH90 aircraft. My responsibilities also included drafting operational rule sets that were consistent with International Standards but contextual to the Australian industry. This required technical leadership, establishing effective working groups, corralling support of stakeholders chairing industry meetings, and advising and interpreting certification, manufacturing, engineering standards to ensure continuing airworthiness practice.
