  • CANA High Voltage Ltd.
    • Calgary, Canada Area
    • Transmission Engineer
      • Mar 2014 - Aug 2017

Project history: Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) Horizon Upgrade Worked as a transmission line designer on single circuit 34.5kV power lines. The single circuit lines were constructed of direct-embed wood pole structures. Project responsibilities included detailed design, material specification, preparing construction drawings, and providing responses to requests for information (RFIs) during construction. Saskatchewan Power Corporation (SaskPower) Transmission Line Rebuilds Worked as a transmission design engineer for transmission line rebuilds in southern Saskatchewan. These projects included upgraded ground clearance and insulation for future line upgrades to 138kV from 72kV, structure design, material takeoffs, and preparation of design drawings. Galloping Study Completed a galloping performance study on a recently constructed 230kV transmission line. Project responsibilities included analysis of the line design, comparison of the line with geographically similar transmission lines, preparation of a report on findings and recommendations to reduce the frequency of outages due to galloping.

Project history:Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) Horizon UpgradeWorked as a transmission line designer on double circuit 34.5kV power lines. The double circuit lines were constructed of steel monopole structures on caissons. Project responsibilities included detailed design, material specification, preparing construction drawings, and providing responses to requests for information (RFIs) during construction.

    • Transmission Designer
      • Jul 2010 - Jul 2013

Project history:Substation Grounding StudiesWorked as a designer on grid upgrades at FortisBC substations. Project responsibilities included modeling existing ground grids, designing ground grid upgrades to maintain safe touch and step voltages, and reporting the findings and the proposed upgrades.Double Circuit Mitigation ProjectsWorked as a transmission designer on numerous 138kV lines in northern Alberta. Project responsibilities included designing solutions to mitigate line-to-line and ground clearance violations, specifying material, and preparing construction drawings.Conductor Sizing StudyWorked as a transmission designer on a 230kV transmission line relocation. Project responsibilities included determining corona onset voltage and conductor surface voltage gradient, calculating radio interference, and preparing a conductor size recommendation.Railway Interference Study Worked as an Engineer-in-training to complete an AC Interference study. Project responsibilities included modeling 6.5km of railway parallel to a double circuit transmission line and determining the resultant voltage and current levels on the railway.Pipeline Induction StudyWorked as an Engineer-in-training to complete an AC Interference study. Project responsibilities included modeling pipelines and 72kV power lines within the project area and determining the resultant voltage and current levels on the pipelines.Thermal RatingsWorked as a transmission line designer. Project responsibilities included validating and reviewing existing line models; analyzing line-to-line and ground clearances; and reporting the findings and line ratings based on the completed analysis.
