Alexandra Amato
My name is Alexandra Amato, and I am the Campaign Development Director for the Student Visionaries of the Year program at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Las Vegas. Daryn Pham has been volunteering with LLS since 2021 and I can confidently say that he is in the top 1% of students I have worked with in my six years as the campaign director for the Student Visionaries of the Year program. Student Visionaries of the Year is a 7-week philanthropic fundraising competition where high school students compete against each other to raise the most funds for LLS. The student or co-candidate teams who raise the most funds within that time, are crowned the winners and earn the title of Student Visionary of the Year for that calendar year. Daryn was nominated to run as a candidate for the 2023 campaign from Coronado High School as the fourth legacy team from there. Not only was Daryn heavily involved in extracurricular activities that included being a member of the Medical Explorer Program at Sunrise Children's Hospital, but he started his own small business called Indigo Club that combats fast-fashion trends by selling thrifted clothing! We were so impressed with Daryn that we were excited to welcome him to our 2023 class of candidates with his team Cancer Crushers. Daryn displayed skills and an incredible work ethic that is typically seen in professionals with 5+ years of experience. He is very organized, communicates effectively, and is a natural born leader. He built and led a team of 30 peers with his co-candidate and rallied them to raise over $14,465 while also starting the first-ever LLS Club at Coronado High School. His team placed in the Top 10 in Las Vegas by raising $32,600 during the BEST fundraising year LLS Las Vegas has ever had and contributed to the $1.37 million total raised in 2023. He will continue his involvement with LLS as a Student Ambassador for the 2023-2024 class of candidates as a mentor for his two legacy teams from Coronado. Daryn displays self-initiative and intellectual curiosity to go above and beyond, always asks questions, and is excited and prepared to learn new skills to get tasks accomplished. It has been an honor to watch him blossom into a dedicated leader and philanthropist. He accomplished this all while holding a 4.0 GPA with a heavy AP course load, playing being on his club (Team Rebel Aquatics) and high school swim team, performing violin in the Coronado Chamber Orchestra, volunteering over 30+ hours with National Honor Society, Hope Means Nevada, and Serving Nevada, and working on a Computer Aided Design/Architecture project! We are so proud of Daryn and all his accomplishments, and we hope you see the value in him too!
