Daryl is an example of a teacher whose passion and enthusiasm for his students drives everything he does. He looks for ways to go over and above to engage with every student and ensure they get whatever assistance they need to succeed. That passion is combined in Daryl with a deep curriculum knowledge, innovative ICT use, eagerness for professional development, and a kind, collaborative and diligent work ethic. Daryl is a pleasure to work with, and will be asset to any school - both for staff and students. I can't recommend him highly enough.

    • School Teacher

      • I taught primary (HSIE, PDH) and secondary (Commerce, Geography) subjects. I was blessed to have plentiful opportunities to connect with students, hear their story and provide the relevant pastoral care that showed sensitivity to students’ faith background. • I learned the importance of developing authentic assessment tasks that helped me gauge students’ level of understanding. As a result, I was able to provide meaningful feedback to assist students in unlocking syllabus information which they had not yet grasped. • A teaching highlight was when I was collaborating with other teachers in establishing the very first ‘Commerce Day' for year 9 and 10 students who were able to showcase their skills and knowledge. Student empowerment and advocacy helped increase student self-confidence and see the connection between learning and the ‘real-world’.

    • Chaplain

      • Experience in providing pastoral care to the community, with a specific focus on the Boarding Community. I was required to demonstrate effective conflict management skills in liaising with Head of Boarding, Boarding masters and students regarding welfare matters. • Support the Senior Chaplain in prayer and theological reflection in its various forms across the school and so requiring exemplary organisational and time management skills. • A highlight of my Chaplaincy was developing a Spiritually Fit Program for Boarders, comprising of weekly devotions for each stage group, Boarders Chapel and a pastoral care program. I also established a new initiative which was a combined Boarder’s Chapel event with other local schools once a semester.

    • Staff Worker

      • Experience in engaging with people from all walks of life and faith backgrounds to encourage a mutual respect where stories could be shared and understand. • A high level of initiative was required in this highly autonomous role as I taught in numerous contexts ranging from weekly public meetings, bible studies, and training seminars for current and potential leaders. • A highlight of this role was developing a training and mentoring program for executive leaders that enabled the group to become completely student run.

During my time with Minuteman Press Artarmon I had two main areas of responsibility. 1. As sales & marketing manager I was responsible for co-ordinating and implementing the marketing strategies, working alongside the graphic designer when it came to creating the relevant promotional material, as well as reviewing our marketing strategies against KPI’s we had set. 2. The other area of responsibility that I had while working with MMP Artarmon was production management. This role primarily involved working with the graphic designer and print shop team. I was responsible for making sure that the in-house production of the business was running smoothly. Therefore, I was to have strong administration, interpersonal and time management skills to ensure smooth and speedy production from the initial contact with customers through to the designing, printing and delivery of goods. Other areas of responsibility involved managing the website content, and designing promotional flyers for the organisation. Reflection: working in the business sector has enriched my understanding of the HSIE syllabus and has enabled me to provide personal and relevant examples during my teaching experience, resulting in students identifying the relevancy of content being taught.
