It has been my pleasure to know and work with Darren Bolding on various projects at RNC. Darren has excellent people skills, is a great communicator and is incredibly passionate about his work and life. He is very effective in communicating with teams and will do whatever is necessary to get the job done right. I've always had great success in working with him as he is reliable and goes above and beyond what is required of him with a keen eye for detail and thoroughness. Darren has the perfect combination of technical depth, intellect and business acumen and really knows how to relate product and solution value to his core audiences with a strong leadership skills in bringing cross-functional teams together and leading them towards the achievement of a single goal. I’d jump at the chance to work with him again in the future and would highly recommend Darren for any leadership role.

I worked in several roles with the RNC, campaigns and companies, primarily as CTO. In these roles I built several organizations and oversaw a large number of successful high profile projects that had significant electoral impact. Responsible for network and security systems architecture and operation, supporting existing games and buildout and launch of a large MMOARPG game (Marvel Heroes). Re-architected core network to resolve ongoing reliability and performance issues and to enable redundancy, deployed open source and commercial firewalls and VPN's. Resolved complex networking, switching and routing issues. When not maintaining, improving or resolving issues with the network, I helped out the Unix Systems Team with projects of varying complexity. Show less

Responsible for Nebula's systems engineering, customer support and internal infrastructure. Since Nebula is a startup, I wore several hats- handling customer support, initial product installs, training, and also building and managing the internal infrastructure and IT to support the company. In all of these roles, I initially did all the work myself, and then trained and mentored new team members to take on responsibilities. I remained very engaged in all of the technical and operational day to day activities. In the Systems Engineering role, I installed and debugged the first customer beta system hand in hand with developers, installed several more by myself, built the customer install process and trained and mentored Sales Engineers. As I handed these responsibilities off to others, I remained engaged in all customer installs. I am happy to say that all of the beta systems I deployed at customer sites have converted to paying customers of Nebula. Working a great deal with the internals of a commercialized OpenStack system, I gained a unique perspective and level of expertise with the underlying open source systems. This also allowed me to become familiar with many private cloud requirements and deployment use cases. In addition to building out customer facing teams, I built out the internal infrastructure and IT teams for the company. This included deploying cloud based services, moving offices, and a very significant amount of DevOps work to enable the development organization to work effectively, such as systems to enable development work on multiple cloud systems simultaneously. Led the Network Engineering, Security and IT teams at Intelius. Built-out multiple datacenters, rebuilt Intelius production and corporate networks, implemented security infrastructure, policies and processes and managed large projects, teams and budgets. I was extremely hands on with projects and solving problems, pitching in and assisting as needed, and did the initial work on the network and security infrastructure until the team grew to meet the organizations needs. I started with Intelius as roughly employee 50, with responsibility for the network, and left an organization with 450 employees and roughly 20 members of my team. Network Engineering scope included architecting and building Layer 2-4 infrastructure, complex large scale load-balancing and content aware networking, datacenter infrastructure, network monitoring, debugging and performance analysis using open source and commercial tools. I was extremely involved in the architecture, implementation and running of the network. Security Scope included firewalls, intrusion detection, data tokenization and vulnerability scanning infrastructure as well as security policy and processes, compliance efforts including preparing for and passing external audits for Sarbanes Oxley and PCI Level-1 merchant status, training, code-reviews and negotiating and managing external audits. Information Technology scope included radically improving customer service, upgrading systems to current operating systems and security standards, re-implementing a reliable Exchange infrastructure, deploying Systems Center Configuration Manager, McAfee security suite, Citrix remote access and thin-computing solutions for tele-workers, Cisco UCS and VmWare ESXi deployment, and negotiating a highly favorable Microsoft Enterprise Agreement.
