Intern
-
Mar 2008 - Sep 2008
As an intern for Eyeking, my efforts often varied as my role involved working in various departments of the course of several months. In the shipping department, I directly worked with the director and managers to restructure and optimize our efforts in regards to all incoming and outgoing freight. We explored new opportunities for Eyeking to cut-costs and maximize all of our logistics. In Eyekings Accounting department, I worked specifically with the manager of Accounts Receivable & Payable. I helped in the handling of collecting on past due invoices and creating quarterly reports. In Eyeking's Marketing department, I worked directly with the director in creatingyearly budgets for the different brands as well as work on several ad campaigns. I was also working within this departments procurement team, to help source projects both domestically and internationally. In Eyeking's Product & Design department, I worked on brand analysis and creating a universal portfolio that examined our competitors and their sunglass collections, which ultimately was used in developing our new lines. TI also became involved in gathering industry reports on trends and styles, as well as helped design several individual pieces within the various collections. I also briefly worked in the Sales & Customer service departments of Eyeking. Covering topics such as: merchandising our displays at authorized retailers, handling new orders, servicing existing customers and opening new doors. Although my time at Eyeking didn't allow me to specialize in one area of study, I feel my experience allowed me to grow even further than a typical internship. I was able to see how the inner workings of a company are run on a macro level, which taught me lessons I wouldn't be able to learn in a typical classroom setting, or at a typical full-time job. Co-Owner/C.E.O
-
Mar 2004 - Aug 2008
The summer of my junior year of High School was the first time I have ever been home and eligible to work a full-time job. Not wanting to work at a day camp or part-time at a retail chain, I was fortunate enough to have family connections in the eyewear business. With that said, I was able to purchase non-branded eyewear at a substantial discount and re-sell them wherever I could...and as they say the rest was history. Being 15 years old and not knowing how to start a business from the ground up, I started off simple and set up an EZ-UP tent in a busy industrial park on Long Island. Strategically, my partner and I picked the location that everyone had to pass, the only entrance/exit. As time went on, people began stopping by just to see what was going on (as we had no signage or advertisements). While that traffic was a good start, we found ourselves coming up short in converting those customers to sales. Over time, we began experimenting with handmade POP, signs, balloons, music, flyers, etc. and as time went on began to create a consistent buzz around the tent on a daily basis. As the story goes on, we finished out our first summer doing fairly well for ourselves, but seemed to learn and grow more as young entrepreneurs if anything. Over the next few summers, we continued down the same route, but began expanding and mastering the art of our business. We eventually made our own displays, had custom made signs, took out advertising in local papers and penny savers, built a small website to keep our existing customers up to date and run specials, and eventually franchised out to other location and built a rep program at local camps (we hired fellow friends who worked as lifeguards or counselors to sell product to their colleagues for a commission.) Unfortunately after several successful summers of running this business, my partner and I moved on to other opportunities and the business dissolved. This then marked the start of Berman & Goldman Optical. Show less
