My role in Three Steps has developed over the years working for the company. I have moved from working in a house for children with special needs to a house for children without disabilities. My general duties as a social care worker include supporting the young people in daily living skills, building a professional relationship with young people and being aware of their individual needs. Duties include completing interventions presented by key workers and a clinical team, dispensing and administering medication, observing the young people’s behaviours and recording them appropriately and liaising with a multi-disciplinary team. My role also includes working off initiative and as part of a team, report writing and general house hold chores and safety check lists. I have taken on extra roles within the house such as Medication officer and keyworker. As medication officer I ensure that the young people are written up for correct medication on their individual kardex by the GP or psychologist, order and collect medication from pharmacy, ensure all children have a valid medical card and are registered with the collect health professional, for example GP’s. My role also includes communicating medication changes to staff, ensuring medication error, spoilage and refusal forms are completed and filed. My key working role includes writing multi-disciplinary reports and presenting them bi-weekly to the team. I work with the young person to identify and implement SMART goals and implement interventions to help meet their goals. Key working also includes advocating on behalf of the child in meetings and professional settings. Show less

I was on third year placement for my degree in social care,I had to complete 13 weeks learning about the duties of a project worker. In this time, I handled money, completed handover documents, made up introductory files on each of the clients and answered telephones. I also interacted with the clients, supervised clients on outings while in early stages of the programme and co-facilitated various counseling groups. As part of placement it was required of me to invent and implement an intervention for one or more clients, which I completed and consider to be successful. Show less

I was a trainee social care worker in my second year in my college degree. I carried out daily tasks such as cleaning, answering phones cooking dinner and collecting medication. I assisted with personal care and encouraged the clients in the house to live independently. I was required to invent and implement an intervention as part of placement which I completed and would consider a successful intervention.
