Danyell Irby worked under me as a general assignment reporter. She has excellent reporting skills and a strong work ethic. She is passionate about her craft and would be a great asset to any news organization. She's a top notch professional with great character and integrity. Ms. Irby has my full endorsement.

I've known Danyell for years through our work with young journalists in the National Association of Black Journalists student development program. Her interactions with students were exemplary. As a trainer, she always worked to bring out the best in her students who always produced top-notch work. Danyell is very collegial and a pleasure to work with.

NPR has received a two-year grant from the Wallace Foundation for a project, aimed at bringing member station education reporters together, identifying and delving into key issues and topics in the field, and producing stories, series, and projects at the local, state and regional levels. And to that end, we’ve asked NPR Supervising Editor Danyell Irby to bring her skills and expertise to this assignment, building on the highly successful model of the Impact of War project that Danyell has led for the past four years. In her work with the Impact of War Project, Danyell was the first editor assigned exclusively to helping stations edit and produce stories for local air, and she has worked with more than 25 member stations who have produced countless local and national pieces and several series. The project's work has received national attention and awards such as the Edward R. Murrow Award and Associated Press Award for best local series. Many of those pieces have also aired on All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and other NPR programs.
