I worked with Dan first while he was a Linux System Administrator, then as my supervisor, and finally as an AWS Cloud Engineer. Dan is highly adaptable, encouraging, supportive, and an effective leader. I'd like to start by highlighting several of Dan's key strengths. The first is Dan's ability to stop, reassess, and make extremely thoughtful and insightful analysis of any situation. This is (and has proven to be) extremely useful in high-pressure situations—where more often than not, cooler heads prevail. Having someone like Dan, who has the ability to zoom in to see the details, and then zoom out to see the bigger picture, almost effortlessly, is what makes Dan a great ally in almost any situation. Dan is also a life-long learner. He's constantly looking to better understand the tools and techniques he already knows well, while reaching to expand his already diverse skill set with additional tools that make him better at what he does. Learning to learn is a skill—and Dan knows how he learns, giving him the ability to learn new things quickly. As I mentioned, Dan has also a rather diverse skill set—ranging from Ops to DevOps, tooling like Ansible and Terraform to cloud primitives with AWS, Dan is a swiss-army knife. And it's not just the tools—Dan understands their role, and place in the Ops/DevOps stack. Consequently, he has the ability to frame any new tools in the right perspective, and know of their immediate value, if any. And finally, Dan, despite his full plate, is always approachable. I can't recall a single time when I've had an issue, reached out to Dan, and not gotten a timely response. He is patient, eager to share what he knows, and always admits to things he doesn't understand.
