    • Assistant Language Teacher
      • Jul 2014 - Jul 2017

I taught English at 5 local elementary schools to students grades 1-6. The schools include: Akkeshi Elementary School, Shinryu Elementary School, Ota Elementary School, Tokutan Elementary School, and Kochi Elementary-Middle School. Working with teachers I create lesson plans and curricula to introduce the English language via team-teaching in fun and interesting ways adhering to students needs while staying within guidelines set by the Japanese government, MEXT. Weekly, for two months every year, I co-teach an English conversation club held for adults in the Akkeshi area who have an interest in learning or refining their English skills. This curricula is also self produced and must be tailored to fit students of varying ages and English abilities. Additionally, working with other nearby English teachers, I volunteer biannually at a one week English camp through which students immerse themselves in the English language. Held at Nepal Akkeshi, the students participate in various activities and lessons to help make their learning experience fun. Show less

    • Sampler Coordinator
      • Sep 2011 - May 2014

I helped to plan the Fall and Spring Sampler at Macalester College. The samplers are a way for prospective students to come and see the school and overnight in an attempt to decide if Macalester is the right school for them. In order to make sure this goes well I stayed in constant contact with Macalester's professors to learn if prospective students could visit their classes on given days. Additionally I created info packets for each of the students allowing them references which allowed them to easily tour campus and find nearby restaurants and public transportation in order to learn more about the college itself.
