Advance the mission of the Pro Bono Institute (PBI) by developing donor strategies and increasing partnership opportunities with PBI stakeholders. Develop partnership opportunities for PBI’s Annual Conference, Annual Dinner, and Esther F. Lardent Leadership in Pro Bono Series, which is a series of forums and networking events designed to bring together the legal community to promote a dialogue on legal practice and access to justice.Development support for special projects, including:>> The Collaborative Justice Project: An innovative initiative that brings together representatives from a variety of sectors of the community to develop and implement a measurable plan with a goal to reduce recidivism and dramatically improve the experiences and outcomes of formerly incarcerated men and women to enable them to lead full and productive lives in their communities. This exciting project is underway and has already seen results in Minnesota. Future steps will include broadening the impact of this important work to include other jurisdictions and areas of focus.>> Multi-jurisdictional Practice: While many jurisdictions permit non-locally barred in-house attorneys to practice law for their employer-client as long as they are in good standing in another state, this exception does not always extend to providing pro bono services. When it does, it typically comes with difficult and unnecessary restrictions that limit and discourage in-house attorneys’ pro bono participation. PBI, in partnership with the Association of Corporate Counsel, is actively working to change this. As a result of recent advocacy efforts around the U.S. 15 jurisdictions have empowered 7000+ in-house counsel to practice pro bono. But there is more work to do.
