I lead a team of talented scientists and engineers in ideating, creating, and developing advanced technologies for next-generation neuroprosthetics and neuroscience research tools. Advanced materials, cutting-edge neural interfaces, software/algorithm development, and hardware development are just a few of our areas of interest/expertise. Author of 15 scientific papers and recipient of the 2022 College of Science outstanding graduate student award. My research focused on creating new functional semiconductor materials, specifically n-type organic semiconductors which are notoriously challenging to work with and have poor performance. Through single-molecule structural modification and morphological control, my work established structural design parameters that maximize sensitivity and reactivity in self-n-doped compounds, which are useful in biosensing, energy harvesting, energy storage, and catalysis. Skills developed: • Synthesis and structural characterization of organic small molecules, including single and multi-step synthesis, flash chromatography, separations, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and mass spectrometry (MS). • Thin-film fabrication and morphological characterization using a variety of techniques including spin-coating, ultrasonic spraying, physical vapor deposition (PVD), and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Morphological characterization via atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS). • Electronic structure characterization of solid materials via continuous wave electron paramagnetic resonance (CW-EPR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), UV-Vis-NIR absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and near-edge X-ray absorption fine-structure (NEXAFS). • Device fabrication/testing of organic thin-film transistors for carrier mobility extraction. I was central to the establishment of a transistor fabrication and testing module in our laboratory. • Technical writing. Wrote and submitted NSF grant proposal, grant drafting/editing work, and have reviewed numerous manuscripts and proposals
