    • Trainee Electronics Technician
      • Feb 2013 - Oct 2015

I was employed by Seatronics Ltd between February 2013 and October 2015. I began initially as a trainee electronics technician and progressed to become an electronics engineer. I was based in Peterhead within the company’s fishing division. Seatronics Ltd provided a variety of services to the local fishing industry; namely the sale and maintenance of Scanmar, Scantrol, Nesco, Unisystem and Seatronics electronic logbook systems. As a result of this, I became very proficient in maintaining and repairing said systems. I was also responsible for bench-testing underwater sensors, installation of systems on fishing vessels and final commissioning. This required that I visited vessels in harbour and at dry docks. Final commissioning was done on the vessels during sea-trials. In the workshop and office, I was also responsible for keeping the stock inventory up-to-date. Other duties included ensuring that components were ready to be dispatched and that the shipping information was correct. I was also required to repair and calibrate Nesco and Unisystem scales, something which I became quite proficient at. I also provided help and support to elogbook customers; this required a firm knowledge of computers and software as well as a good telephone manner. Due to the nature of the fishing industry, I was often called out at short notice and would often work late nights or at the weekends. Although my job was primarily shore-based, I was required to attend sea trials aboard vessels on numerous occasions. The ability to work away from home was also a requirement of my job. Seatronics sent me on training courses for Scanmar, Scantrol and Unisystem Show less

    • Recruitment Assistant
      • 2010 - 2011

In the summer of 2011, I was employed by Stork in the role of recruitment assistant. Based in the company’s Energy Resourcing department at Dyce, my main duty was to assist the department’s team of recruiters by helping them find suitable candidates to fill offshore positions. I was responsible for placing job adverts on the department’s website, as well as reviewing applications for the advertised posts. I ensured that prospective candidates possessed current qualifications and certification for the post. I liaised closely with the individual, via telephone and email, to ensure that all relevant documentation was present and submitted to the clients prior to mobilisation offshore. I was also required to conduct checks as necessary to establish the validity of the candidate’s credentials and that all the certification presented was valid and unencumbered by contacting the issuing authority of the certification. I was also responsible for arranging the travel logistics to and from the offshore installation as well as ordering equipment, such as personal protection equipment as required. Scrutiny of contractor’s insurance was required to ensure that it was adequate for the project; Communication with the individual and the policy guarantor was via phone or email. I was also responsible for ensuring that all personnel files on our database were accurate and updated regularly. I feel that this post taught me how to multi-task successfully as well as enabling me to prioritise my work as the mobilisations were often unpredictable and conducted with short notice. My variety of tasks also ensured that I had to work efficiently either by myself or as part of a team as well as becoming proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products. Show less
