I’m responsible for creating and implementing internal and external communications strategies to boost the profile of the Alberta SPCA, and to deal with crisis communications scenarios. I’m a storyteller at heart, with a knack for knowing what pieces of information will connect with viewers and readers thanks to my media/journalism experience. My skills are especially well suited for an organization that has a desire to get its story told. In my time at the Alberta SPCA I have revamped and relaunched its newsletter AnimalKind, and led the redevelopment of our website to be more visual and user friendly. I manage and produce content for social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, as well as produce most of the content for our website. Show less

I had the privilege to lead an amazing team of journalists to produce 7 hours of local news programming each day. Conflict management and time management were skills I put to use everyday (and every hour of the day). I assigned, monitored and approved all editorial content on TV, the website and on social media. As the senior news manager, I was responsible for hiring staff, developing plans to increase ratings, and managing a dynamic team of 80 people in an incredibly fast-paced environment. I was at my best when new was breaking and we would have to make quick decisions, often with limited information. Our newsroom won numerous awards from the RTDNA for our work on the Fort McMurray and Slave Lake wildfires, including large market TV newscast of the year.I was also responsible for managing the newsroom's image and brand, addressing concerns from the public and the organizations that we covered. For much of the time I was News Director, I also performed the duties of the Managing Editor.
