Chair / President, Sectoral Commission on Culture, Communication and Information
-
Mar 2008 - May 2012
I have been working with the Canadian Commission for UNESCO since 2000. I participated in their youth sector throughout the first few years, was appointed as a member of the Sectoral Commission on Culture, Communication and Information in 2003, and in 2006 was appointed Vice-Chair of the Sectoral Commisison. In March of 2008 I was appointed Chair - it has been a number of years since a woman held this position, and certainly the first time (that I know of) that an Indigenous person has been appointed. As a Chair, I will be on the delegation to the General Conference of UNESCO which will be held in October of 2009 in Paris.

I attended the first UNESCO Arts Education Conference held in Lisbon, Portugal in 2006 as a representative of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO. Subsequent to that first international conference, a Committee was struck in Canada to hold annual follow-up meetings to track progress in Canada further to the Road Map outcome document produced in Lisbon.
