Working in a high-pressure environment where keeping to a tight time schedule is essential—gaining a great insight into what working in a media-based studio feels like, alongside various different production teams. I have gained a good understanding of how production teams work, being involved in shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, Pointless, 5 Gold Rings, Little Big Shots and numerous Radio productions. The environments within the studios that surround these shows are very different, so being able to adapt and work efficiently on all shows with the same team is crucial. The role I have is to be able to work efficiently with the production team, working on live TV and Radio shows mean there is a strict time schedule. The audience must be seated as quickly as possible within a minimal space of time.

Soon after leaving University, I worked for an award-winning European Recruitment Company, known for its fast pace and fast growth within its market, since starting in 2009. Through Marlin Green, I quickly learned and strengthened many crucial skills and routines that can lead every day to be productive day. Time management and perseverance were critical elements of the everyday routine. Having to coincide with the Sales team and work together in a very fast-paced environment, where candidates would have to be qualified within a certain amount of time, monitored by senior staff, to provide excellent quality solutions to our clients, across Europe.

Occasional work when needed by one of the leading Horse Racing Betting firms. I work on various Horse racing tracks around the UK. Such events as the Royal Ascot or The Cheltenham festival are extremely busy and require a strong concentration level as you are dealing with high amounts of money and large crowds. Being at the front of the Stall means bringing in customers while competing with the other firms around you. This is done by offering better prices and having a strong outgoing personality and image.

    • Assistant Photographer
      • Jun 2015 - Jun 2019

Occasional work as an assistant for wedding photography and other small studio-based work. My role was to assist the main photographer in any way they saw necessary, from things as small as setting up flash guns or other equipment, to being given the role to do my own photography. This idea of being able to think on your feet and be proactive relates to my BBC work and shows some skills needed in a runner for production. Again, these skills are all a part of being a successful and fundamental part of a smoothly run Video Production team.

During the shooting of the very ambitious live-shot film ‘Bloodyminded’, I was the talent liaison for the leading actor Theo Barklem-Biggs. This job was given to me because of the trust I had gained through my time on an industry placement at Blast Theory. The job involved a high-intensity pace and amount of teamwork as the project was a live-streamed feature film that was being broadcasted to various locations in Europe, meaning there was little room for error. Working on this gave me a great opportunity to create contacts for the future and showcase my determination to get into this industry.

I worked in China as an English Teacher for children from the age of 5-8 years at an English School in Shijiazhuang. It was a very small company which means I had an insightful and engaging experience with both the other employees and children/parents. I ran my own daily class, teaching basic English Phonics as a 10-week program. This involved planning classes for each session and grading homework handed in by students. This was great for developing my self-organisation and time schedule management.

As part of the industry placement module at the University of Brighton, during my second year, I worked for an adventurous artistic company called Blast Theory. While working here I was able to see how large-scale projects were started and had a large involvement in the planning of these upcoming projects. I was given the responsibility to research and contact different suppliers for large print displays that will be used at an exhibition in various London Museums. I also had to shoot and edit a video for their website, showing the experiences of resident artists that used their creative space to work on their individual projects. The head three artists at Blast Theory were very pleased with my work ethic and mindset within the creative industry, so much so they invited me back to work on their project ‘Bloodyminded’.

Summer work in America, taking the role of a piano tutor and camp counsellor, having the duty of caring for the campers in a high-intensity environment with such great responsibility helped my self-confidence massively. Much of the knowledge I learnt at camp will help me thrive in stressful and fast-paced jobs in the future. The job involved many tasks to show your strengths in both individual and team-based scenarios. As part of the music team, we had to create our own syllabus for the campers to go through within our department. We created whole class activities for everybody to get involved in, such as talent shows. But then we also had to create activities for individual students to complete in certain areas; mine being piano.
