An opportunity came up to work as an in-house Recruitment Manager for one of the UK's biggest meat companies, something I couldn't turn down! A great opportunity to learn more about the industry I'm passionate about and learn more about recruitment from the other side of the fence.I was responsible for building and implementing a new internal recruitment function from scratch in a £1bn food company across 17 sites, as well as directly sourcing talent. A great experience.

I returned from my 6 months in Australia and had a pretty good idea that I wanted to begin a career in recruitment. Through a rec-2-rec recruiter, I had several interviews lined up for me in London for big recruitment firms (I even had 3 interviews in one day!) but none of the interviews went brilliantly and none of the businesses felt right for me. One company even told me that I wasn't passionate enough about recruitment! Then, through a friends recommendation, I was pointed in the direction of Elevate RTC in Nottingham. At the time, they were a 3 person business and I was to become the 4th.I spent 3 years honing my skills and becoming a genuine specialist in a niche market, the meat industry. I assisted meat industry businesses ranging from high street butchers shops to multi-billion pound companies. I was involved in end to end recruitment campaigns for a wide range of roles across all disciplines including low-level positions to senior managers.

Cricket is a massive part of my life and I'd always dreamt of playing in Australia. The summer of finishing university, I decided that the upcoming winter, I would aim to play overseas. I took to Twitter and started messaging clubs over there to see if I could get a gig. One club responded and recommended I get in touch with Cricketer Exchange, an online agent that helps players find clubs. I got in touch with Glenn at CE (you'll find him in my recommendations a bit lower down on my profile!) and within a week I had an offer to play for a Melbourne based Cricket Club called St Andrews to play in their 1st XI and to also coach their Under 12's side. What a season - the best 6 months of my life. The season was incredibly successful. The 1st XI that I played in was one of 4 teams at St Andrews to win their respective leagues.
