Volunteer Advocate (FRU)
-
Oct 2018 - Oct 2021
My work for the FRU provides an invaluable opportunity to take on and manage my own cases. At the time of writing I have completed 3 social security tribunal appeals. The volunteering not only provides fantastic experience in respect of written and verbal advocacy, but also provides experience of working in a fully regulated legal firm, expanding my knowledge of client confidentiality, administrative tasks necessary for case management, and client interaction. E-commerce Shop Owner
-
Dec 2014 - Jul 2019
Alongside my studies and various part-time employment roles I also started up an online market stall for handmade accessories called CatchTheClock, selling on two e-commerce platforms (Etsy and Depop). The accessories were designed and handmade by myself. I took up this small venture as a way to earn a bit of money to put towards my studies, but also to gain a bit of experience in the world of business and to keep on developing my customer service skills. During this small venture, I had many international customers and most of my orders are shipped to the U.S.A. All feedback ratings I received were 5 Star. I also ran multiple social media promotion sites for my store Although this was a small home business, it was been successful in its aims and I feel it has helped me develop my organisational skills, computer skills, marketing skills and given me more confidence in my abilities. Mini Pupil
-
Oct 2018 - Oct 2018
I was delighted to secure a mini-pupillage at No.1 High Pavement Chambers, which allowed me to gain an insight into the bustling, exciting reality of the criminal bar. I attended multiple video-link hearings, which were useful in order to see the slightly differing processes within the court room. I attended a sentencing hearing for a Possession of a Weapon for Discharge case, observing client conference, and the plea in mitigation. During this I learnt valuable lessons regarding appropriate defences for various charges, as well as the law around “taser” guns. I also attended sentencing hearings for Arson, Supply of Class A drugs (x4 counts), and Possession with Intent to Supply. I attended pre-trial plea hearings for Robbery and Damage to Property, GBH with Intent and False Imprisonment (multiple defendant), Assault occasioning ABH, and Aggravated Burglary. Throughout these hearings I also observed discussion of trial estimations, and bail conditions, as well as observing adjournment applications. Show less

Last academic year I worked for Nottingham Trent University as part of the Alumni Calling Team. This job involved contacting previous graduates of the university, updating the university records concerning graduate employment status, and raising donations for the John Van Geest Cancer Research Centre. This job has improved my negotiation skills, has allowed me to develop further confidence in my communication skills, and has improved my ability to operate as part of a close-knit team. During this employment I was also awarded the end-of-campaign prize for top performing caller. Show less

Shadowing/Work Experience
-
Nov 2016 - Nov 2016
I spent three days shadowing Mark Diggle, a barrister at Ropewalk Chambers in Nottingham. During the work experience I was able to attend a client conference for a housing case concerning the breech of a tenancy agreement. I attended an application hearing (concerning an abuse of process) at Doncaster County Court which allowed me to learn about various procedures that are followed throughout personal injury claims. I also spent time in chambers reading various briefs and instructions, ranging from land law cases to personal injury claims, and was tasked with preparing the chronology notes for a case that was soon to go to trial. This work experience gave me an invaluable insight into daily life at the bar and allowed me to ask a multitude of questions regarding law practice and the path to becoming a barrister. Show less

Member of Promotions Team
-
Feb 2013 - Sep 2014
Whilst working for DHP I was a member of the Rock City Promotions Team for Nightclub and Concert Events. This job gave me the opportunity to interact with hundreds of members of the public every shift allowing me to develop my sales skills as well as my overall communication skills. My work enabled me to show resilience and calm when dealing with extremely challenging customers and difficult situations. Throughout this work I gained confidence in my ability to approach and successfully interact with members of the public. I won seven staff promotional competitions in which my team of two had the highest number of club entries and were awarded various prizes by the company. I was chosen by the Promotions manager to be one of the two members of staff that dealt with the social media promotions for the venue. I was therefore an administrator of the venue's Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as V.I.P guest list organisation and online customer queries. I also was given the responsibility of welcoming and helping to train new members of the promotional team by helping them learn how to approach potential customers and teaching them tips and tricks for capturing peoples' attention whilst working as part of a street promotion team. Another opportunity that I took hold of whilst working for DHP was the chance to work as part of the festival team at well known festivals around Nottingham including; DotToDot festival, Everywhere Festival and Spendour Festival.
