A university-run clinic specializing in family, commercial, intellectual property and housing law. I see clients roughly once a fortnight and interview them about their case, and follow up by writing a letter of advice to them - this requires extensive legal research and excellent time management. Telephone Advisor
-
Jul 2019 - Oct 2020
I was selected to train as an advisor with Citizens Advice. I trained for 4 months as a telephone advisor, answering calls from members of the public about any issues they had. These ranged from parking fines and court appearances to landlord disputes and employment rights, giving me a chance to experience and research many different areas of law I may not have looked into otherwise. This role involved confidential information and high levels of compliance with GDPR. I was selected to train as an advisor with Citizens Advice. Judge Marshalling
-
Dec 2019 - Dec 2019
Through my university law school, I was offered the opportunity to take part in some judge marshalling in the Crown Court. During this time, I sat on the bench with the Judge and heard two detailed cases – one for assault and one for historic sex abuse. Both cases were very different and gave me a chance to see different methods of litigation from the barristers and experience real court trials. In the breaks, I had a chance to discuss the case and my thoughts with the judge and ask any questions I had about the process. Show less
