Laurelcrest Capital is a bulk ingredients and finished product B2B Cannabinoid manufacturer based in McMinnville Oregon. At Laurelcrest we believe that access to high quality, safe and effective natural plant medicine is essential to building healthy communities. We strive to support and improve the lives of our employees, our stakeholders and our customers by creating superior products through transparent and sustainable good manufacturing practice, ensuring our products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. My interest in the industry started with my work on a feature length documentary film, Homemade, and witnessing the benefits and theraputic effects of cannabis for veterans struggling with co-morbidities of PTSD, TBI, addiction and transition to civilian life. Michael Bernstein, my father simultaneously invested in Pharma Hemp, a leader in the European Market. The journey since then has been up and down and winding, however my guiding mission has remained rooted in expanding access to safe alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs, improving lives through plant medicine and encouraging natural modalities of healing. HOMEMADE is a five year, cinematic and intimate journey about a marriage, invisible wounds and the effects of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and addiction. Weaving between the monumental landscapes of Utah, Washington DC landmarks, cinéma vérité scenes and recorded phone calls, HOMEMADE tells an intimate story of US Marine Adam Sorensen and his wife Victoria. HOMEMADE was developed from the idea that the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) goes off twice; once in the field, affecting each individual differently depending on a variety of factors including proximity to the blast, physical position and past injuries. There is a second blast that goes off in each family living room as a result of the actual explosion. It’s footprint reaches our closest loved ones, the physicians treating the wounded, and extends into our communities. The film examines the culture of treating symptoms instead of cause and the disconnect between medical care and true wellness. Themes addressed include continuity of care, the epidemic of over-prescription in both military and civilian care, and the stereotypes of injured combat veterans. HOMEMADE aims to close the empathy gap between civilian and military communities, start productive dialogues, and provide audiences with an abundance of tools in order to take action. We are developing a dynamic and measurable impact campaign to highlight and amplify the work already being done to support returning military and their families. Our team is also creating an online platform for those moved by the film to advocate and get involved with organizations that work through domestic needs, research, policy, employment opportunities, the arts and alternative therapy. Co-directed and Produced, When Clouds Clear an award winning feature documentary that explores one remote Ecuadorian community’s radical resistance to a proposed copper mine that would level the town and destroy its way of life forever. As two invading mining companies have become increasingly brazen in their attempts to infiltrate and control the community of Junin, the people must coalesce into a united resistance in order to survive. Still, some citizens side with the wealth that the companies promise, causing irreparable divisions, pitting friend against friend and father against son. Suddenly these once-peaceful farmers find themselves thrust into a dangerous world of corruption, splintered households, murder and arson as they fight tenaciously to protect their land and families. The film was featured in over 30 film festivals internationally and won the following awards: 2009: Best Documentary, Long Island Latino International Film (USA); Audience Top 5, Encuentros del Otro Cine, Quito (Ecuador); 2008: Best Feature Film Award, Seoul Green International Film Festival (South Korea); Social Justice Award for Documentary, Santa Barbara International Film Festival (USA); Artistic Vision Award, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival (USA); Best Latin Film Award, Breckenridge Festival of Film (USA); Best Spanish Language Film Award, Rincon International Film Festival (Puerto Rico); Best of Festival Award, Hazelwolf Environmental Film Festival, Seattle (USA); It was recognized for an Excellence in Film Award by the Accolade Competition and received a Cine Golden Eagle Award.
