Daniele Malfitana, Ph.D., is a classical archaeologist who specializes in the culture and history of the Roman Empire. He has conducted research at many Roman period sites in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Albania and actually is Head of the Institute for Archaeological and Monumental Heritage of the Italian CNR and Professor of Archaeology in the University of Catania. He is Leader Project of various research projects based at IBAM. Malfitana teaches a variety of undergraduate courses on subjects pertaining to the history, culture and archaeology of the ancient Mediterranean world as well as archaeological theory and methods. He is Leader of some research units in international research projects based at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), Oxford (Institute of Archaeology), Southampton (Ports Network), UK. He is currently co-directing a joint archaeological research project between Italy and Albania on the site of ancient Durres and is Scientific responsible of archaeological researches on Catania, Parco delle Aci and other sites. He is scientific director of the IBAM activities in Pompeii within the Pompeii Sustainable Preservation Project led by the Fraunhofer Institute. Corresponding member of the Society of Roman Studies, London. He is directing "Roman Sicily Project: ceramics and trade", based at IBAM, Catania, an ongoing multidisciplinary research project. He is co-director of the international peer-review journal titled Facta. A Journal of Roman material culture studies, since 2007 and from 2009 of HEROM. Journal of Hellenistic and Roman material culture published by Leuven University Press. On 2014 he has obtained the license for Full Professor on Classical Archaeology.
