Assisted in Title V major source permit and non-Title V minor source permit renewal applications for manufacturing companies and electric utilities in Arizona and Nevada. Prepared emission inventory reports, compliance certifications, and assisted clients with air permitting compliance issues and related inquiries. Highlight included calculating the emission effects of various power generation operating scenarios in order to optimize power generation within permitted emission limits. Lead developer of an Integrated Business Management System (IBMS) for a large electronic-waste recycler; Developed an IBMS that meets the requirements of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, BAN e-Stewards, and US EPA R2 standards and consensus. Developed the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) System in accordance with the principles outlined in the IBMS. Aligned the operations of the company to the requirements of the EHS System. Performed Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) in various locations throughout Arizona. Duties included performing site visits; gathering zoning, ownership, building permits, fire records, and groundwater well information; geology research; underground storage tank (UST) and leaking underground storage tank (LUST) file review; aerial photograph interpretation; regulatory database (e.g., RCRA, WQARF, CERCLA) and city directory review; personal interviews; and preparation of technical reports. Carried out experiments to determine photolysis rates for several endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) in wastewater. Adapted investigative procedures for examining prior chemical compounds to the study of wastewater contaminants using new research equipment. Such investigative procedures included flow modeling for a non-ideal reactor, determining the UV and fluorescent spectra of the chemical compounds being studied, extraction techniques for extremely low concentration contaminant levels, and finding surrogate chemical compounds with degradation rates similar to the hydrophobic EDCs being studied for analysis in aqueous environments.
