Most children seeking cancer treatment at Tata Medical Center are socioeconomically disadvantaged and are unable to meet costs of treatment without external financial assistance. This project looked at the demographics of these patients so that the hospital's funding requirements could be better understood and planned. It also helped the hospital to better understand reasons for treatment abandonment and its prevention. This project concretely identified the socioeconomic brackets of patients, looked at the family demographics and geographic location of such patients, and identified factors leading to financial difficulties (e.g. Loss of earnings/job, family size, large amount of money spent elsewhere on treatment).
