Michael Cook
If you want a guy who can code like the wind and has the ability to thoroughly understand the needs of the business while doing so, then Dan is the right choice. I can't tell you how many times he would tell me "No" to a given problem and immediately outline a better way to solve the problem at hand. His grasp of the issues and business drivers (customers' sometimes whacky requests for instance) was always apparent and he was truly solutions-oriented. Having him join your team immediately moves it up a level in capability.

I met Dan right before we finalized a joint venture between Getty Images and Time Inc. to jointly launch Life.com. From the very beginning Dan, in his role as lead technologist, was exceptionally supportive. He encouraged us to dream about how Life.com would look and function. Dan delivered on the original vision and enhanced it in so many ways. Throughout the startup and the first years of operating Life.com, Dan was a critical partner in attracting millions of users and world class advertisers. We challenged Dan and his staff every day and they consistently delivered. Frequently they exceeded our expectations. Dan possesses the rare traits of technological brilliance and highly-developed communication skills- a combination we found exceedingly necessary in a dynamic environment of rapid change.

Co-Founder and Software Developer

Mar 2012 - Present
Stocksy United is an artist-owned stock photography co-operative founded upon the principles of equality, respect and the fair distribution of profits with a goal of delivering world class photography at reasonable prices. As a co-founder of the co-operative and a senior software developer, I have been responsible for selecting initial technologies and building core application architecture for the web front end. Working with a small team of technologists and designers, my role involved designing and implementing accounting and e-commerce systems, constructing content management systems (including advanced GUI tools for uploading and processing photography, managing photography catalogs and managing metadata information) as well as implementing user engagement tools for searching, content sharing and customer participation. In addition to my technical duties as a developer, I have assisted in establishing core business processes, including working closely with accounting, managing code repositories and performing requirements analysis for business needs.I am proud to have helped develop a business that not only provides fantastic design resources for designers and marketers, but helps establish sustainable careers for hard working, talented photographers. Director, Special Projects

Aug 2007 - Jan 2012
In my role at Special Projects, I led a small development team in the technical design and implementation of the LIFE.com website, iPhone and iPad applications. (LIFE.com was a joint venture between Time Inc. and Getty Images) The LIFE.com development team was responsible for developing the website from the ground up, implementing application architecture, content management systems and, with the assistance of our Seattle-based systems teams, integrating the LIFE.com application tightly into the Getty Images systems and content library APIs. In my role, I facilitated the technical integration of our Calgary-based development team with the editorial team in New York and our systems teams in Seattle, ensuring that business goals were being accurately broken down into technical requirements and communicated throughout both sides of the joint venture. In addition to my business role, I had a number of technical duties which included implementing the customer-facing website application, converting design mockups into working pages and focusing on site performance to ensure optimal site performance. I also worked closely with our developers and our systems teams to implement source code management, business and QA processes. During the lifetime of the joint venture, our technical achievements helped reinvigorate a classic brand into a thriving, successful and award-winning web experience. Show less
