I maintain and develop a Kotlin stack designed specifically to meet the BYU Custom Apps team needs. I use this stack to develop AWS applications that serve the entire campus community. I am responsible for creating Web Services in Kotlin and the Vue.js clients that consume those and other web services. I also evaluate candidate technologies for our stack and adopt new technologies when appropriate. As well as developing in our stack, I have built and maintain much of the tooling our team uses to do their work. I have been responsible for proof of concept projects with third party vendors for products that would cost the University millions of dollars. My evaluation of these products has been the determining factor in our partnerships with these vendors. I meet regularly with other development teams to discuss collaborations between our teams to meet the campus needs.

As a developer for the Library’s award winner search tools, I created Java REST services that leveraged Apache Solr to enrich and expand search results for library patrons. I was responsible for, architecting, implementing and maintaining these services. I also developed libraries for our team to help us create additional search services at a faster pace, by simplifying and standardizing our document indexing processes. My responsibilities included meeting with library partners to gather and create product requirements, and to collaborate with the other application development teams in the library. While working as a software engineer in the library I also managed student engineers. I am most proud of managing the student summer internship projects. Without fail all the student that participated commented on how these projects pushed them to their limits, while being extremely rewarding.
