My mini at 29 Bedford Row spanned 3 days, during which I experienced a wide range of financial remedy cases along with a small amount of private children work. The financial work observed ranged from cons with clients in chambers to hearings at the High Court, and I also had the opportunity to undertake research for members of chambers. Over the course of a week at QEB, the work I observed reached across all stages of financial proceedings. I watched an all day FDR, an MPS application where the opposition husband suffered after recurring instances of non-disclosure, and an FDA for a periodical payments variation application where both parties applied for variations. My mini-pupillage at 1HC provided my first practical insight into matrimonial finance and developed my understanding of the different rules of the family world. This included attending a full-day FDR (my first exposure to this common form of Family ADR) and conducting a discrete research task for a member of chambers. I spent three days at 9GS, where I gained experience of a full range of civil, family and criminal practice areas, spending a day focused on each. Each day provided me with an opportunity to witness barristers on their feet in court, and I observed cases ranging from a personal injury case in the Court of Appeal, to an application for an interim care order in the Family Court, to part of a multi-day fraud trial in the Crown Court. During a period of five days, I spent the majority of my time shadowing a number of different barristers as they appeared in court. I was able to witness a variety of case-types, ranging from a 5 minute strike out application to a full trial for a breach of an interim injunction. These cases largely dealt with social housing issues, such as s.204 appeals, but I was also able to observe work in the Immigration Court. I was fortunate to spend two afternoons conducting research for the Head of Chambers for a case he was conducting at that time Show less

3 days spent in chambers, looking at recent cases and making my own attempts at writing particulars of claim and skeleton arguments. In addition, I was also able to spend time in court with several junior barristers, watching both applications and responses to applications for summary judgments, to strike out statement of case, and for judgments to be set aside. 3 days spent in chambers, looking at recent cases and making my own attempts at writing particulars of claim and skeleton arguments.
