As a charity, our focus is on providing support to families, funding the research and raising awareness of Tay-Sachs. My role involves running the charity on a day to day basis and my tasks include fundraising, accounting, marketing and research. I have become an effective fundraiser and have secured both grants from private and public sectors for the charity. In addition, I have held many events for the public to attend which have raised significant amounts. I have also created a brand for the charity which is now recognisable in the rare disease charity area. I have ensured that we are the number one charity for individuals affected by Tay-Sachs and we are now known to the NHS as a reliable source of information for families. Key projects which I have implemented are the first European Patient Registry for Tay-Sachs and Sandhoff Disease; new diagnosis packs which have been distributed to all NHS centres diagnosing the diseases; ground breaking app for smart phones which promotes and helps someone provide care to an individual with a terminal condition; and I have raised over £750,000 for the charity. Since joining I have led a complete re-brand of the charity, which has involved a new logo, new website and new publications. I led these projects and used my web skills to create the website and my expertise on Adobe Creative Cloud to produce a new range of support literature. I have also driven the charity forward in adopting online strategies which has resulted in huge cost savings. Examples are the bi-monthly online newsletter replacing a quarterly printed version, a larger social media presence and implementing a volunteer network based on a peer-to-peer support network.
