Reaction conditions and catalytic… Show more Through the summer of 2015 I completed a research project with a successfully published academic paper with Dr. Vilius Franckevičius and Miles Kenny titled 'Catalytic Chemo- and Regioselective Coupling of 1,3-Dicarbonyls with N-Heterocyclic Nucleophiles'. With recent trends in expanding drug architecture to become more 3-dimensional, new synthetic catalytic methods were explored and developed by coupling enolates with pyrroles for heterocycle synthesis. Reaction conditions and catalytic coupling were both optimised. This project allowed me to learn and refine a wide array of laboratory techniques, including but not limited to working under inert atmospheres, column chromatography and sample analysis. Analytical and critical thinking methods were employed such as the interpretation and characterisation of 1D NMR, 2D NMR and mass spectrometry spectra.
