April 2, 2017 To Whom It May Concern: It is with pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation on behalf of my former student Daniel Kim. Daniel is a bright, ethical, motivated, intellectually curious and talented young man who will be an asset wherever he goes. I know Daniel through his participation in my Negotiation and Settlement class at UC Hastings, during the 2016 Fall Semester in which he received the top grade and highest award. The purpose of the class is to teach negotiation theory, process and skills, and develop a framework for self-improvement in the future. The class is highly interactive and combines significant discussion with weekly roleplay simulations, a videotape review and an e-mail negotiation. I was particularly impressed by Daniel’s dedication to the class and consistently high quality work. He was always well prepared and ready to actively participate in discussions with logic, insight and clarity. During my observations of roleplays, Daniel demonstrated the skills required to be a strong and savvy negotiator. He was very effective in his strategic planning, building persuasive and logical arguments while at the same time exhibiting respect for others and an interest in collaborative outcomes. He was receptive to coaching and exhibited good emotional intelligence. No matter how tense a negotiation, Daniel remained even-keeled, patient and methodical. In conclusion, I would highly recommend Daniel Kim. His impressive work in my class suggests that he will perform very well as a professional and would be a positive addition to any team or organization. Please feel free to contact me for further information or questions regarding this recommendation. Jessica Notini

I had the pleasure of working with and managing Daniel while he was a legal intern at Silver Spring Networks during the summer of 2016. I was immediately impressed with his legal judgment and business acumen, as well as his genuine desire to delve into all aspects of the organization. Throughout his internship, he consistently performed at an extraordinarily high level. Daniel excelled in all areas of our in-house practice. In particular, he got meaningful exposure with inbound and outbound technology transactions, corporate and securities matters, and legal department process improvements. With respect to the transactional work that Daniel performed for me, he regularly proved his ability to quickly digest complex agreements and legal concepts. Unlike the vast majority of law students (and even many seasoned attorneys), Daniel brings to the table a unique understanding of how technology works, how engineers think about developing it, and how business folks think about bringing it to market. By the end of his tenure, I had confidence that he could handle – with relatively little oversight – the review and negotiation of industry standard software licenses, SaaS subscriptions, hardware purchase orders, professional consulting agreements, and software maintenance and support arrangements. I’m certain that contributions Daniel made during his internship continue to be leveraged by the Silver Spring legal department; especially those he made related to researching and developing contractual language/best practices for IoT-based products and services, which – at the time – represented a novel business model for the company. I could go on, but suffice it to say that Daniel would immediately add value to any organization lucky enough to have him on their team. He has my highest recommendation.
