The company’s vision was to create more than a place where people could buy leisure clothing to sweat in, they wanted to create a community hub where people could learn and discuss the physical aspects of healthy living, mindfulness and living to fulfilment. This inclusive approach is what attracted me to the organisation. I was very enthused by lululemons desire and commitment to empower their people to reach their full potential through providing the right tools and resources. From the moment I commenced employment there I was impressed with and encouraged by the culture of leadership, goal setting and personal responsibility which was exhibited by team members at all levels. Duties included inducting and training new staff members, supervision of call centre agents, evaluation of staff performance based on the quality of customer interactions and updating client data bases in accordance with data protection regulations. Cork, Ireland? Founded in 1971, the Starbucks Corporation is an American coffee company and coffeehouse chain. Starbucks Mission Statement is “To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighbourhood at a time”. The company, despite its immense growth has always abided by this commitment and it was only after I commenced working for this company did I realise that these were more than just corporate words. The outlet in which I worked, was located in the heart of Cork City, in one of the busiest shopping districts. This gave me an opportunity to develop valuable relationships with many local business owners and engage with customers from different socio-economic backgrounds. After several months it registered with me how practical Starbucks mission statement was, how it applied to my role and how the company's principles in many ways mirrored my own. Hired as a supervisor, apart from managing inventory and sales, I was responsible for interacting with the patrons and ensuring the Starbucks standards of service were adhered to. I soon realised that many customers were returning more regularly and always willing to have a quick word about their day or progress in work etc. The role enabled me to adapt the skills I had learned in a rural hotel setting and apply them to a very vibrant urban commercial setting. My role quickly progressed with more of an emphasis on recruitment, coinciding with the opening of 10 new stores across Southern Ireland. This included training new staff members, evaluating performance and measuring against KPI’s. This experience certainly fueled my ambition to work towards a career in human resources. Role requires Proficiency in Micros, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel and strong analytical skills. Show less

Within its headquarters located in Blarney village, just a short distance from the famous Blarney Castle, a vast complex houses an internationally renowned hotel. It also includes a very elaborate retail emporium with superior brands on offer such as Waterford Crystal, Belleek Pottery, and Newbridge Silverware. In addition, it has a number of food and beverage outlets and a conference & banqueting suite catering for local, national and international events. Whilst I commenced my employment as a food & beverage team member I was promoted to a supervisory role which included hiring and training new team members. Overseeing large events, ordering and receiving goods and maintaining standard operating procedures, too formed part of my role. As supervisor, I co-ordinated the catering arrangements for all guests, which involved significant planning with the large number of tour operators who regularly visited the complex. This role required me to liaise with senior colleagues on all matters relating the food & beverage operation as regards weddings, banquets and hotel residents. Working in such a fast paced environment certainly enhanced my ability to deal with the unexpected in a prompt and professional manner. During my time at the hotel I was given the opportunity to work with a very diverse team of people from several countries with varying cultural backgrounds, qualifications and skill-sets. Being a small hotel, I was also fortunate enough to regularly engage with many other departments such as reservations, front office, kitchen and sales & marketing. This gave me the chance to learn about and appreciate, how many departments of the hotel operate and about how crucial teamwork and planning are key to a successful organisation, especially one the magnitude of the Blarney Woollen Mills complex.
